SURVIVING DISASTER
THE MUNICH AIR CRASH, BBC1
This was the first model sequence shot at
our new home at Ealing Studios. The
shoot of the crash took place over four days on stage 3B.
A fifty foot
cyclorama was hung in a corner of the stage and an extensive snow
landscape laid out to form a backing to the runway miniature.
Blizzard conditions were created with a combination of foam snow
blowers and smoke, the plane propelled by means of a wire connected
to the front wheel through a slot in the runway.
Once shots of the plane's
aborted take off attempts were completed, the model was sawn into
two pieces for the climactic crash
sequence. |
